Two books in one. The Fabric of Raleigh meets The Fabric of Durham in the middle where Gregg Museum curator Roger Manley shares an illuminating afterword positing photographer Christer Berg’s work in the history of art photography.
Christer took to the streets of Raleigh and Durham in a meandering way for many months and responding to what caught his eye. Bringing along a portable backdrop and lighting, he then made portraits that combine the spontaneity of street photography with the more formal qualities of studio photography while celebrating some of the souls of Raleigh and Durham.
Subjects share how their work or passion is a part of their life and the result on the fabric of their city.
Liza Roberts, Walter Magazine founding editor and Roylee Duvall of Through This Lens gallery in Durham provide introductory essays.
112 pages of colorful vibrancy and a cast of characters from many walks of life. Turning each page is like rounding the corner on a city block to get a fresh and upclose glimpse at many citizens through intimate and engaging portraits.
